IT Sligo in conjunction with Sligo LEO, Sligo Chamber, Enterprise Ireland, IDA, Sligo BID will offer a set of short lecturers on topics which will support businesses who are considering offering their goods and services on-line to understand the issues and challenges involved in going on-line and how to manage them.
The lecture series combines lecturers in IT Sligo and external experts covering a number of topics which will be of interest to business moving online. With a Q&A session afterwards.

E- Sales platforms – Fergal Keane
This lecture will describe the different elements involved in creating an effective an eCommerce platform. It will discuss how you can use some, or all, of these elements to get you up and running online – from very basic solutions that can be implemented in a very short time, to more advanced solutions that require a little more planning. It will also explore some online tool and platforms that you can utilise to get your online sales up and running.
Online Marketing – Aine Doherty
Now you have your website set up, you need to make sure you are driving traffic to it so you can make sales. This lecture will explain the concept of search engine optimisation and its role in ensuring you rank highly on search engines, so that when prospective consumers search for products or services like yours, they will see your business at the top of the page. It will also outline how you can drive traffic to your website using social media, Google AdWords (advertising) and other digital tools. It will conclude with an overview on how to evaluate if these online marketing techniques are working for you or not.
Legal / Consumer Issues with a particular focus on on-line sales –Ruth Walsh
Now that you have decided to sell your goods or services to consumers online, or over the phone, it is important to be aware of consumer protection laws and how they apply to your business. This talk aims to keep you on the right side of both national and EU consumer protection legislation and provide guidance on your legal obligations when selling by distance.
Finance and taxation considerations for on-line sales – Gary Reynolds
The sale of goods and services on-line has taxation and customs implications particularly for VAT. When considering exporting outside the EC consideration has to be given to the tax and excise implications of transacting business outside the EU. With the impending impletion of Brexit, this lecture will cover briefly some of the possible considerations when trading with the UK into the future.
Logistics and choosing your delivery partner. – Chris McGurrin
When selling online, selecting the correct delivery partner is key. Considerations such as cost, reliability, service quality and speed are all important factors. Tips in selecting your logistics partner, managing orders, inventory and customer expectations are key. Other issues such as pricing, insurance of goods and responsibilities of couriers in the delivery of goods will be considered.
Practical Supports for business – LEO and EI presenters.
